Because the minimum recommended roof pitch for plain tiles is 35 degrees (40 degrees for some handmade plain tiles) the general roof pitch needs to be greater to ensure that the bellcast is at least the minimum pitch.
Where the minimum headlap cannot be maintained soakers should be used (see Section Use of soakers).
